Stop design becoming your site problem.

Design management. Installed.

For fit-out contractors, specialist manufacturers, and project teams who cannot afford design drift.

You do not lose money because drawings exist. You lose it when nobody owns the information, the dates, the approvals, the consultant pressure, and the release points.

dpow.agent installs the design function without adding headcount. Fixed-fee project control, fractional Head of Design Management support, and a live portal from week one.

No recruitment delay. No open-ended day rate. No vague promise that someone is “on it”.

You get control before the job starts hurting.

Clear start. Clear scope. Clear stop.

The project gets a design management function installed fast, with deliverables, cadence and reporting agreed upfront.

  • TIDP ownership and drawing release control.
  • Consultant chase, design actions and weekly reports.
  • No vague promise that someone is “on it”.
02 · Senior Leadership

Fractional Head of Design Management.

Senior design leadership without the full-time hire, recruitment delay or notice period.

For businesses with designers, CAD resource or project managers, but no dedicated design management function at director level. The aim is not to add another designer. It is to install the standards, governance and pressure system.

Fractional leadership CTA

The function built above the project noise.

Design standards, review cadence, team structure, reporting lines and decision discipline for contractors who have outgrown informal control.

  • Governance, process and leadership rhythm.
  • Director-level reporting and commercial visibility.
  • Better control without committing to a permanent hire.
03 · Live Portal

The visible proof layer.

This is what control looks like in week one.

The portal turns the project from scattered emails, hidden actions and late surprises into live visibility: TIDP status, open risks, owners, dates, package readiness and decisions that need attention.

Why this matters now

Design is not the deliverable. Control is.

The drawing register is not the problem. The problem is the gap between design, procurement, construction, approval, handover, and commercial pressure.

That gap is where RFIs multiply, dates slip, client confidence drops, and packages reach site half-ready.

dpow.agent closes that gap by installing the management layer most projects assume they have, but rarely do.

01

You already have drawings.

What you usually do not have is a controlled route from drawing intent to buildable release, approval, procurement, and handover.

02

Hiring takes too long.

By the time you advertise, interview, appoint, onboard, and discover whether they can really run the job, the damage may already be in the programme.

03

The risk still lands with you.

If design is uncontrolled, the cost does not stay in design. It moves into site delay, rework, missed procurement, late approvals, and difficult conversations.

The difference

This is what control looks like.
Live.

Every engagement includes a live project portal. Programme progress, document register, open RFIs, TIDP status, critical issues, and weekly reports in one place.

This is not decoration. It is the proof layer. Your team, client, directors, and consultants can see what is late, what is blocking release, who owns it, and what happens next.

Live programme status, updated weekly
Document register with revision tracking
Critical issues flagged with assignee and days overdue
TIDP submittal and approval status per discipline
Included on every fixed-price and production engagement
Exportable. Printable. Board-ready.

What gets installed

The Design Function

Six controls. One operating rhythm. Not consultant theatre. Not admin for the sake of it. A working management layer tied to procurement, construction, approvals, reporting, and handover.

01

Programme Lock

Before anything moves, the design programme is built properly. Not a gantt for show. A real sequence tied to procurement, construction dates, approvals, lead times, and release points.

Real design sequence, not generic dates Links design to site reality Exposes risk early

02

Information Control

Every package. Every deliverable. Every date. Tracked, owned, visible. No blind chasing. No mystery gaps. No pretending someone else is dealing with it.

TIDP logic and live ownership Package-by-package visibility Clear accountability
View example document
03

Consultant Control

Architects, M&E, specialists, subcontractors. Aligned to one programme and held to it. Meetings become useful when someone is actually running them.

Cross-discipline alignment Pressure where drift starts One controlled direction
View example document
04

Package Readiness

Nothing goes to site half-designed. If it is released, it is buildable. If it is not buildable, it does not move. That sounds simple. It is rare.

Release discipline Buildability before issue Fewer expensive surprises
View example document
05

Reporting & Pressure

Weekly visibility. What is late. What is drifting. What is about to break. Problems do not sit in meeting notes. They get pushed, tracked, and closed.

Live risk visibility Weekly reporting cadence Issues handled before site pain
View example document
06

Handover Closure

O&Ms, records, audit trail, completion information. Complete before it is needed, not chased after practical completion when everyone has already mentally left the job.

Cleaner close-out Better audit trail No scramble at the end

About

I learned design management from the consequences.

I started making the things the drawings described. Joinery. Fit-out. Site work. Workshops. Real materials. Real tolerances. Real consequences when something was wrong.

That changes the way you manage information.

Consultants do not get to bluff. Subcontractors do not get to hide behind drawings. Problems do not sit in meetings and age quietly. They get solved early, before they cost time, before they cost money, and before they become someone else's emergency.

Over twenty years that work scaled from high-end interiors and retail to major London commercial packages, heritage programmes, specialist fit-out, and private clients.

I do not sell bodies. I take on a small number of projects, install the system, and run the pressure until the job is under control.

Common questions

Things worth knowing before you decide.

How quickly can this actually be up and running?+
The project setup, four gate documents, programme, and live portal are in place in week one. There is no ramp-up period, no orientation month. The infrastructure arrives with the engagement. Most clients have a structured Monday report before their second weekly meeting.
We already have someone handling this internally. Why would we need this?+
If the person handling design is also doing three other jobs, the design process is not being managed. It is being survived. dpow.agent is the dedicated function -- ISO 19650 naming, weekly reporting, consultant pressure, programme tracking -- with no dilution. That is a different thing to someone fitting it in.
What happens to all the project data if the engagement ends?+
Everything is built in your systems from day one. Registers, programmes, documents. Nothing lives in a private inbox or a personal drive. You own the data from the moment it is created. If the engagement ends, the infrastructure stays. Your team picks it up with a full handover.
Do you actually understand our kind of work?+
Twenty years delivering fit-out, bespoke joinery, specialist interiors, and major commercial packages for contractors including Skanska, McLaren, and Mace. The background is fabrication and site work first, design management second. That matters when you are dealing with lead times, tolerances, and packages that have to be right before they leave the workshop.
Is the cost worth it compared to hiring someone full time?+
A Head of Design on payroll costs around £100,000 all-in per year -- salary, National Insurance, pension, and three months notice to exit. That is before the time to hire, onboarding, and the risk of a wrong appointment. One avoided design error or one revision caught before it reaches site pays for six months of retainer. That happens on most projects.
We tried a freelance design manager before and it did not work.+
The most common failure is the absence of infrastructure. Someone arrives and does their best, but there is no programme framework, no document register, no reporting cadence. dpow.agent arrives with the systems already built. Week one is structured delivery. The portal is live before the first consultant meeting.
What if we only need help for a short period?+
There is no lock-in. Cancel with one month notice at any time. There is also a Project Launch option for a fixed scope -- full intake, gate documents, programme, portal set up -- as a one-off. You can carry it forward yourselves or continue with the monthly retainer. Either works.
How does it work in practice week to week?+
Every Monday a structured report lands covering programme status, outstanding items, consultant performance, and what needs a decision that week. The client portal is live around the clock. Design team meetings are chaired and minuted. Consultants are held to their deliverable dates. If something is drifting, it is flagged before it becomes a problem on site.

Structured Monday report and live portal within two weeks - or that fortnight is at no charge.

Questions, answered

What is dpow.agent?

dpow.agent installs a complete design management function and a live client portal for UK fit-out and commercial construction contractors - fixed-fee per project, or fractional for as long as you need it. No headcount added, no lock-in.

How much does it cost?

Two ways. OaaS (Outcome as a Service) is a fixed £10,000 per project. The Fractional Head of Design retainer is £1,000 per week, billed weekly with one week’s notice to cancel.

Who is dpow.agent for?

Fit-out and commercial construction contractors, specialist subcontractors and developers who have consultants to manage, deliverables to track and a programme to hit - but no dedicated design management function.

What is included in every engagement?

A live Datum client portal active before the first consultant meeting, a programme framework, a document register and consultant governance from week one, and a structured report every Monday. The portal and Monday report are live within two weeks or that fortnight is free.

Do I have to add headcount or sign a long contract?

No. Nothing goes on your payroll and there is no lock-in - the Fractional retainer needs only one week’s notice. Everything is built in your own systems, so you own all the data from day one.

What is Datum?

Datum is the live client project portal included with every engagement - real-time documents, programme, RFIs and weekly reporting at a single URL. There is a live demo at demo.dpow.co.uk.
